A private wooded lodge that sleeps 40 — close enough for State Fair week and quiet enough for everything else.
Shagbark Ridge Barn Lodge sits on 20 wooded acres near Versailles, Missouri — about 40 minutes south of Sedalia. We sleep up to 40 guests across eight one-of-a-kind themed rooms, each with its own personality and private bath. Think a restored Chevy truck bed, a raft floating down river, or a cozy cabin with snowshoes on the wall.
The lodge comes with a commercial kitchen and banquet dining for 40, a lit multi-sport court, fire pit, game loft with foosball and ping pong, and acres of outdoor space to spread out. You get the whole place to yourselves.
If it's August, there's a good chance it's the Missouri State Fair. It's one of the biggest events in the state — livestock shows, carnival rides, grandstand concerts, and enough fried food to last a lifetime. The fairgrounds fill up fast and hotel rooms disappear, so having a whole lodge 40 minutes away is a serious advantage.
Sedalia is also the birthplace of ragtime music. Scott Joplin composed the famous "Maple Leaf Rag" right here in 1899. The Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival runs every June and draws music lovers from all over. The Katy Depot is worth a visit for the history alone.
Outdoor folks will appreciate the Katy Trail — the longest rail-trail in America runs right through Sedalia. Ride a stretch during the day, then come back to the lodge for a fire pit evening on our 20 acres. Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site is another gem — a 31-room lodge built into a bluff with incredible views and guided tours.
Whether you're here for the fair, the festival, or just a weekend away with your crew, you're 40 minutes from your own private lodge.
Skip the overpriced hotels. Book the whole lodge for your fair crew.
40 beds, a full kitchen, and no noise complaints — just your people.
Katy Trail base camp with hot showers and a game loft after the ride.
Peaceful wooded setting with space for meals, meetings, and fellowship.
